Missing you

It feels like
Eternity

Since my eyes
Travelled
Through space

To rest upon
Your face

Where the air
Would fall
From my chest

To the very tips
Of my toes
Only to explode

At the touch
Of your lips
To mine

So succulently
Sublime

In that moment
Where nothing else
Exists

But your essence
Entwined
With mine

We the privileged
Where we whine over
Minor inconvenience

Hunger pangs
Because I forgot
To eat breakfast

Or cold
When I left
My sweater
In the car

Because
I didn’t want
To carry it

But that man who
I just saw
Sitting on the corner
Holding his head
In his hands

I feel sharp sorrow
Emanating from
filthy fingers

Sitting on the cold
Wet cement
I couldn’t really
Begin to understand

And those eyes
Of that child
Over social media

So green
Like my sons
But where the comparison
Ends

Because Finnegan’s
Crocodile tears
Over bedtime
Couldn’t possibly begin
To compare

To the haunted look
From a war torn
Terrified look
Embedded

And here I sit
Wondering
Why I feel

So guilty
And grateful
At the same time
