I wandered today
As if lost
Amongst the trees
Hoping for feeling
Of being free

Except all around me
I see the leaves
So slowly, wretchedly

In vivid array
Of brilliant oranges
And browns

From vibrant green
Where once seen
As the youthfulness
Of spring

And as they lay dying
I realize I am dying too

In slow decay
Hauntingly beautiful
In transformations array

Where somewhere
Between darkness
And brightness I stay

As dripping sands
Of time
So surely betray

Where once
I may have been happy
Where I could stay
But now
I beg for rebirth

Between the crowing
Of the cock
And the incessant
Of the broken clock

And here I lay
Refusing to stay
What I was
Or compromise
Any longer
Who I am
