I wandered today
As if lost
Amongst the trees
Hoping for feeling
Of being free

Except all around me
I see the leaves
So slowly, wretchedly
Beautifully
Dying

Crumbling
In vivid array
Of brilliant oranges
And browns

From vibrant green
Where once seen
As the youthfulness
Of spring

And as they lay dying
I realize I am dying too

In slow decay
Hauntingly beautiful
In transformations array

Where somewhere
Between darkness
And brightness I stay

As dripping sands
Of time
So surely betray

Where once
I may have been happy
Where I could stay
But now
I beg for rebirth

Between the crowing
Of the cock
And the incessant
Clicking
Of the broken clock

And here I lay
Refusing to stay
What I was
Or compromise
Any longer
Who I am
